Adis says: I know, this is the sort of themes that make people draw comparisons with the strip and Calvin and Hobbes. (Not that I'm anywhere near that level, I'm just saying.) Why don't people mention the Lilo and Stitch influence, which is just as big? (I adore that movie...)
